Philip’s account of the disappearance changed in numerous circumstances. And it all revolved around a pilgrimage to Elvis Presley’s home, a mystery ambulance, and a bloody sweatshirt.
Multiple reports indicate that Philip told family members his wife had cancer. And since she was a big fan of Elvis Presley, he decided to take her to Graceland, the Colonial Revival mansion in Memphis that is the fan base for the rock and roll pioneer.
On January 4, 2018, Philip called one of his friends, John Lapp, and informed him that he was planning to go on a 725-mile trip to Tennessee. Three days later, Philip called a few family members, informing them that he had returned from the road trip; however, he had sad news. He stated that his wife had died.
The story was that Roberta had choked on her phlegm when they arrived in town, and he approached an EMS truck for assistance. He said they put her in an ambulance and did not know where she went.

Police officers decided to try a new tactic to get Snider to confess. They sent Hartville police officer Joan Bauer, who went undercover. Her goal was to befriend Phillip Snider and get him to confess murdering his wife. And it could only happen if he talked about his wife.
So, they met and started bonding over coffee at local fast-food restaurants. Their conversations grew close as they got fond of one another.

At some point, the undercover police officer named Missy told Philip that she was taking care of her dying mother. She informed her that her relationship with her mother was not okay. Missy confided in Snider that she wished her mother would die and had thought about killing her.
Interestingly, Snider suggested they marry so Missy could collect her mother's pension after she died. In turn, Missy told Snider that they couldn't continue their relationship unless he told her the truth about his wife's death.
Snider confessed to killing his wife by bashing her skull with a two-pound hammer. He then disposed of the body, murder weapon, and other blood-spattered pieces on his way to Graceland.
That was enough to arrest Philip Snider, and on April 20, 2018, Hartville Chief Dordea arrested him at his regular morning hangout.
